Himmelfarb House

Washington DC, 2007

Design proposal. The design program called for the expansion of a mid-twentieth century residential brick building on the back yard side and for the partial renovation of both existing floors. An attached small exterior volume, located on the side of the existing building on the first floor, has also been redesigned to host a new den room. A new polished concrete fireplace replaces the existing one and a new sense of open space is achieved, around the fireplace, towards the new den on one side and thru the new building extension. There, an exterior glazed partition on two sides overlooks the backyard and on a reflecting pool on the right side that reaches down to the den addition. The proposed enlarged first floor includes two renovated bedrooms and two new ones in addition to two new bathrooms. The new exteriors are finished with matching brick types and distinguish themselves from the existing enclosures.
