Cultural Center

Ranica, Italy, 1989

Design competition. Awarded the Second Prize. The project site is located in the rear of an existing nineteen century social services building and next to a medieval home more recently acquired by the town administration. The program called for the construction of a library with auditorium and art exhibition spaces. The first design choice  was to utilize the access to the medieval building as the entrance to the new site. This choice informed some of the character of the new composition in the interplay of arch forms and in the more general formal quality. The new facade from the new inner court maintains a neoclassical proportion and a material referentiality with the existing building.
